The rise of browser-based gaming continues, as casual gaming portal Gamezebo posted an announcement last week about a new collaborative venture with the members of 80's rock band REO Speedwagon to release a browser-based "hidden object" adventure.
Cashing in on the recent success of titles like Guitar Hero: Metallica and The Beatles: Rock Band, Gamezebo is releasing a pixel-hunt adventure for the PC centered around the trials and tribulations of REO Speedwagon. Tentatively titled REO Speedwagon: Find Your Own Way Home, the game drops players into the shoes of an intrepid entertainment reporter in a sticky situation after the band leader mysteriously goes missing before the big album release party. Players must search for clues, track down the AWOL rockstar and get everyone to the party on time.
This "behind-the-scenes look" at the world of classic rock gods features 80 levels across a variety of illustrated cartoon setpieces, and the greatest hits soundtrack will include remastered instrumental versions of "Roll With the Changes" and "Keep On Loving You." The browser game is expected to release the week after Thanksgiving in time to cash in on a televised appearance of the band on an unannounced ABC special. Both events happen to coincide with the recent release of the band's Christmas album, a discount for which is also included with every purchase of the point-n-click game. This may also be the first time a retail game has been included in a Wonka-esque ticket competition, as the first ten players to find the Golden Ticket item hidden in the final level will receive concert tickets and a backstage pass to hang out with the band.
