I've run across multiple instances over the last decade on data recovery needs. Some are a physical server HD, others a xSD card for a phone. Recovery of physical spindle drives are pretty straight forward within an IT shop. However, with more recent technology, what kind of tools would be critical to recovering some of the memory cards which are out there and used in nearly every smartphone, camera or USB stick? I can find all sorts of "affiliate marketed products", but what are the tools being used inside the corporate IT shops?

Purchased two used routers (1760) and one used switch (2924-xl). Running vista OS and PuTTY emulator. The pre-owned devices keep prompting me for a password for; User Access Verification. I don't have the required password. Unable to get to the Router> command line. Google, Yahoo, and Bing are not delivering any solutions. Need help! Thanks in advance for your time and expertise.

I am setting up the network for the computer institute I work for. We are discarding the old network and are going for a new network.

There will be 2 Computer Labs with 60 computers in each Lab. The staffroom will have 20 computers. The Accounts department will have 5 computers. All the departments are in the same building with just 2 floors. It will be a wired network. All computers should have access to the Internet. There will be a printer each in the 2 Labs, staffroom & accounts department which has to be shared with their respective network. The Lab computers will run MS Office, Adobe software etc. Likewise the the staffroom and accounts department computers will also have to run MS Office and probably Adobe software as well. We will be using Windows Server 2003 and are inclined to use IBM servers due to a partnership. Cost isn't a major issue and the management is willing to spend to set this up rightly in the first place.

My main question is whether we should go for a thin client network with everything running in the main servers. In that case how many servers should we have and what would be the ideal config of those servers.
If we go for workstation PCs for each user if cost isn't an issue then what are the benefits over thin client computers

Do we have to have a separate server for data?

What would be the ideal setup for the whole network?

Hi everyone,

I need help on setting up a network.
The computer institute I work for has been acquired by a new management & I have been promoted as our Sr. network administrator. We are discarding the old network and are going for a new network. I am in charge of setting this up. I am thorough with hardware settings, software installation etc. But I am a newbie in setting up a large network from scratch. The management is willing to spend but they want everything to be setup properly at the start itself. Considering this plus the benefits in my job I need to set this up correctly. So if you can guide me on this I will be grateful.

Then there will be 2 more computers for me and my assitant to monitor the network. All the departments are in the same building with just 2 floors. It will be a wired network. 1. What would be the ideal setup for this Network? The Labs, staffroom and the Accts dept should have their own network isn't it and then join the larger network isn't it?
What should be the Network topology for each room?

2. Where should my computer as the Administrator come in?

3. How many servers do we need? Do I have to use one of the server as my computer?
For the users what would be the ideal computer?

Please give me a total layout like where the servers, switch, router etc should come in so that I can set this up correctly.

Trying to decide if I I should invest the time and money to get the A+ Certification FIRST or should I go directly to studying for the CCNA and pick up the A+ later? Please advise. My investigation so far has led me to believe I should invest in training and studying for the CCNA and CCNP and then take the A+ exam later. Thanks in advance for your time and response.

Hello everyone!

This is my first post in NW, so it's kind of ceremonial :) Let me introduce myself shortly. I am Lithuanian telecommunication engineering student and I’m looking forward for Cisco CCNA certification.

Okay, now the main part. I know there are so many articles, blogs ant other posts about CCNA lab and I know how this questioning should be annoying, but guys - it’s so important to talk about new studies with people who had already walked that path. I’ve read all Wendell Odom’s posts and blogs about mentioned lab, so I know a little bit what I need, but I’d like to hear NW users’ opinions for sure.

So, here is what I’m thinking about:

x1: 2621 with 2FE; memory: 16F/48D; IOS: 12.4 IP Base.

x2: 2620 with 1FE; memory: 16F/48D; IOS: 12.4 IP Base.

x1: 2924XL switch; memory: 4F/8D; IOS: 12.0-5.

I’m still wondering about 2950 switch, but I’m not sure if it’s worth its price.

I’m still a student, so my budged is not limitless. Let’s say, that 300 $ is maximum price for routers, switch, cables, shipping and etc.

Hey Guys,

I am planning on taking my CCNA exam in a few months and I have just started going though the Todd Lammle's book. I figured it will be very helpful if I can get a couple of Cisco Routers and a Switch to get there.

I bought 2 Cisco 2501 & One 2511 Router. One Cisco 1900 Catalyst Switch. I have 2 Console Cables, 2 DTE/DCE Cables & 3 AUI Ethernet transceivers.

My question is how do I connect all of these devices to my PC and configure them. I am frustrated and confused! I have no idea how to go about it.

I could configure one router with the console cable connected to my PC and I got a pretty good idea but How do I use the remaining devices?

Please provide step by step process of connecting these devices. I need help guys.
Some folks have suggested to use Packet Tracer but I'd rather use these devices and get familiar with them.
I have searched for days on youtube to find a video! And it's driving me crazy! Please help...
